Sturridge is under pressure after his recent Liverpool performances, could West Ham have luck with a late bid?

It has been a big positive for Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge that he has finally remained injury free this season, but that is where the good news ends.

The England international has failed to recapture his electric form of 2013/14, which saw him net 21 goals.

This season Sturridge has netted just six goals, four in the EFL Cup and only two in the Premier League.

His performance against Southampton in week drew plenty of criticism, but it is easy to forget that just months ago he was scoring in the Europa League Final and for England at Euro 2016.

Liverpool may be getting frustrated with him, but supporters of other striker needy teams should strongly consider a late bid for the 27-year-old to try their luck.

Top of the queue should be West Ham, who have been fruitlessly trying to sign a top quality forward for at least the last three transfer windows.

Sturridge would be just that, and could benefit from the change in scenery. Liverpool would demand a steep price for his services, but could be open to a sale at the right fee based on this season’s disappointing displays.

With a big money sale of Dimitri Payet likely, West Ham should in theory have little trouble funding a move, providing they re-assess their current priorities in order to try and acquire Sturridge.

West Ham do not have European football to offer, but are a big enough name that Sturridge would consider a switch, and he could thrive on being one of the main men, and having the fresh start away from Anfield that many suspect he wants.
