David Moyes’ contract with West Ham United expires at the end of the season.

While West Ham’s number one focus has to be staying in the Premier League this season, it would be little surprise if some of those working behind the scenes were starting to consider the future of their current manager.

So what should West Ham’s position on Moyes’ future be?
His appointment was met with plenty of criticism following his terrible tenure as Sunderland boss, and West Ham go into the final eight games of the campaign just one place and two points above the bottom three in the Premier League.
Their situation is incredibly precarious and it could get a lot worse in their next game as they host Southampton – the team directly below them – in their first fixture at the London Stadium since the incredible scenes during their clash with Burnley.

While Moyes may not have been able to oversee a significant move away from the bottom three since arriving, there have been some bright moments along the way, and to blame the Scotsman for all of the issues that he has faced would be a massive mistake.
The obvious suggestion would be to predict that if Moyes keeps West Ham up, he will stay on, and if they go down, he will not see his deal extended. Whether that is what the club is thinking remains to be seen.
But there may well be some who want Moyes to stay on if they go down, while there may be those who want him gone even if he keeps them up.
Moyes may not be the long-term answer for West Ham, but keeping him beyond his current contract may not be a terrible idea as it appears that there is a long period of transition ahead and a safe pair of hands may be required to negotiate this spell for the club.
