The Valencia man has been linked with Watford, but West Ham United should gatecrash the party.
Hammers boss Slaven Bilic brought Jose Fonte to the club in January, for £8 million, and the Portuguese has since struggled to live up to high expectations.
The former Southampton man will be 34 in December, and West Ham will surely have to be lining up a move for a younger, established centre-back, who can serve as a genuine upgrade on Fonte.

With this in mind, Bilic should consider a move for Valencia’s Aymen Abdennour, who has been linked with a £7 million switch to Watford, according to Sky Sports.
The 27-year-old possesses all of the attributes that are necessary to be a success in the Premier League. He is incredibly strong, tenacious in the tackle, capable in the air, and is no slouch when it comes to a foot race.
The 54-capped Tunisian international is renowned for his leadership qualities, and his ability to organise his defence from the first minute of the game to the very last – something that would surely appeal to Bilic following some of the Hammers’ shambolic defensive displays last season.
For the fee of just £7 million too, in a market that has become so ludicrously inflated, bringing Abdennour to the London Stadium is seemingly a no-brainer, and something that Bilic should seriously consider.
