If the 28-year-old does leave, Pellegrini will have to bring in an able-bodied replacement, and an ideal option for them could be Newcastle’s Matt Ritchie.
The Scotland international’s future at St James’ Park is far from certain, and he would be an extremely sound addition to the West Ham squad.
Ritchie is naturally left-footed, and would provide greater balance to the Hammers’ attacking play.
He possesses a potent delivery – something that West Ham have lacked since Dimitri Payet’s acrimonious exit from the club 18 months ago.
According to a report from the Daily Mail, Ritchie is valued somewhere in the region of £15-20 million, and if West Ham receive a similar fee for Antonio, a move for the Newcastle ace really would be a no-brainer.
The 28-year-old’s creative guile and nouse in the final third really would offer Pellegrini with an entirely different option, and the Chilean should not hesitate to bring him to east London this summer.
