West Ham United could arguably do with more options in attacking areas, so perhaps a move for the Everton summer signing should be considered.
With West Ham seriously starting to pull away from the bottom three in the Premier League, one of the last things David Moyes probably needed was for two of his best attacking players to be struck down by injury just before the final days of the transfer window.
With the pair so influential to the Irons’ side right now, Moyes may be hugely disappointed to lose both when they have a significant amount of momentum behind them, especially as the gap to the bottom three is still not large enough for comfort at this stage.
Given the pair’s injuries however, Moyes should perhaps use the final days of the window to try and tempt Everton into loaning one of their summer signings to the Hammers to give them extra depth going forward.
It is fair to say that Davy Klaassen’s spell in the Premier League has been a largely miserable one. He has made little impact for the Toffees when he has been given a chance, and The Telegraph reported earlier in the month that the £23.6 million signing – who has not played in the top flight since September – is available.
With the days until the deadline evaporating quickly, the chances of Everton offloading the Dutchman permanently appear to be slim, so perhaps the Hammers should offer to take Klaassen on loan for the rest of the season in the hope that the Toffees see the move as beneficial for all.
Sam Allardyce appears to have no intention of using the 24-year-old right now, so letting him leave on a temporary basis may give him a chance to get some confidence back and prove a point to Everton or allow the midfielder to put himself in the shop window. It will surely be easier to sell him for a reasonable price if he has enjoyed a decent patch of form heading into the summer.
Meanwhile, West Ham will be landing a player who was excellent in the Eredivisie. And Moyes has proven with Arnautovic that he can transform certain players if everything clicks into place. And if they make a loan bid, the move would come with little risk, especially as Everton’s desire to offload him may allow the Hammers to pull off a decent deal from a financial perspective.
And the Irons would be signing a player who will clearly have every ounce of motivation he could need to make a statement after a torrid time on Merseyside. So while West Ham making a loan bid may appear to be a questionable decision, perhaps Moyes should consider taking a chance on Klaassen for the second-half of the campaign as he looks to fill the voids that the injuries leave.
