Dean Saunders has linked Chris Wilder with Leicester so should West Ham take a look at the Sheffield United manager if they sack Slaven Bilic?
Slaven Bilic, manager of West Ham United, looks on prior to the Premier League match against Brighton and Hove Albion.
With Everton having finally pulled the trigger on Ronald Koeman following a 5-2 defeat to Arsenal, West Ham United’s Slaven Bilic is now the favourite with Skybet to be the next Premier League manager to leave their position.
Some may think the Croatian is lucky to still be at London Stadium in any case following the 3-0 loss to newly promoted Brighton and Hove Albion and it feels like a matter of when, rather than if, Bilic is sacked.
Chris Wilder looks on during the Sky Bet Championship match between Sheffield United and Barnsley.
There are many big names being linked with the Hammers should they decide to make a change in the dugout, but while not likely to be the most glamorous appointment should they take a serious look at Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder?
The Blades’ 2-1 victory over Reading at the weekend leaves them third in the Championship and outside the automatic promotion spots on goal difference alone, despite only coming up from League One at the end of last season.
Former player Dean Saunders (l) chats with Chris Coleman before the Premier League match between Swansea City and Liverpool.
It is this form that lead Dean Saunders to tell talkSPORT: “Why’s [Wilder] not got mentioned for the Leicester job? He’s not flamboyant enough?
“People can’t keep ignoring Chris Wilder. If you go back to his Oxford results and then Northampton, them results. Over the last three or four years he’s got an unbelievable amount of wins.”
Meanwhile, Rio Ferdinand predicted on Twitter that Sean Dyche would take charge at the Toffees and then Wilder would replace him at Burnley.
Clearly many feel that the 50-year-old is ready to make the step up to the top flight and having won promotion with his last three clubs and perhaps a second in as many years with United this term, it is easy to see why.
Not only that, but for West Ham the fact he achieved that against the odds with Northampton Town and then under high expectation now at Bramall Lane, maybe he also has the right character to succeed at the often turbulent East London club.
