The Newcastle United midfielder would be an excellent addition for West Ham United.
West Ham boss Manuel Pellegrini will surely be busy during the January transfer window, in a bid to guide his side to a Europa League place this season.
One area in particular where the Chilean will likely want to strengthen is his central midfield department, with ongoing concerns over Jack Wilshere’s fitness and Carlos Sanchez ruled out with a long-term injury.
With this in mind, the Hammers should consider signing Newcastle United’s Jonjo Shelvey.
The 26-year-old is a boyhood West Ham fan, having been born just down the road in Harold Hill, and he would surely jump at the chance to move back home.
Shelvey is an excellent passer of the football, and possesses a certain kind of composure in possession that the Hammers sometimes lack in the middle of the park.
Mark Noble, 31, will eventually need replacing, and the Magpies ace would be just the ticket.
The six-capped England international joined Newcastle fro Swansea City in January 2016, for a fee believed to be with in the region of £12 million, so West Ham would surely have to offer at least that amount, if they want to bring the midfielder to the London Stadium.
Shelvey currently earns £70,000 per week at Newcastle, according to Spotrac, so the Hammers should have no problem in matching his salary.
Pellegrini should do everything within his power to bring the 26-year-old to West Ham in January – it could turn out to be a signing of real significance for the east London outfit.
