The Portuguese midfielder has been heavily linked with a move to West Bromwich Albion, but could West Ham United get in the way?

A recent report in the Daily Express has suggested that West Bromwich Albion are potentially facing tough competition in their pursuit of Sporting Lisbon midfielder, William Carvalho.
Carvalho, who is 25-years-old, is widely considered to be one of the best central defensive midfielders in Europe at the moment, and enjoyed an impressive Euros with Portugal last summer.
His playing style, which is comparable to that of players such as Tottenham Hotspur’s Victor Wanyama or Southampton’s Oriel Romeu, looks like it could fit in well at the Hawthorns under Tony Pulis’ system, but should another club enter the frame for the player?
One Premier League side who are in need of a real midfield enforcer are Slaven Bilic’s West Ham United. The Hammers have endured a disappointing season this year, after the elation of last year’s achievements, and many have questioned whether the Croatian manager’s job could be on the line.
The truth is that, after the loss of key men like Dimitri Payet, West Ham United are just not strong enough in certain areas. In need of a 20-goal-a-season striker and a hard man to break up opposition play in the centre of the park, perhaps West Ham fans should have seen their dip in form coming.

One player who could help fix these problems in the summer is William Carvalho. Not only could the Hammers afford the big wages, but the chance to play at the London Stadium could well tempt the Portuguese midfielder away from any potential deal at the Hawthorns.
However, the report also suggests that both Arsenal and Manchester City are mulling over a move for the midfielder, so if West Ham United are keen to hijack West Brom’s bid for Carvalho, they may well need to get a move on.
Would West Ham United fans be happy with this move? Is he the right kind of player they should be aiming for? Or should they be focusing on other areas? Let us know your thoughts in the comments!
