Carlos Vela has enjoyed a brilliant spell in La Liga, so perhaps West Bromwich Albion should offer him another chance in the Premier League.

With West Brom’s season tailing off, Tony Pulis will be under no illusions that investment in the squad will be required in the summer if the Baggies are to establish themselves as a top-half team next term.

The Baggies are currently eighth in the Premier League but will do well to hold onto that position with the two teams below them both boasting games in hand over Pulis’ men.

One player who Pulis should perhaps target as a marquee addition to boost their chances of building on the promise they have shown this term is a forward who has some idea of what playing for the club is all about.

Carlos Vela moved to the Hawthorns on loan from Arsenal in 2010, but generally struggled to make much of an impact with two goals coming in just eight appearances for the club.

Since then however, a lot has changed for both West Brom and Vela himself.

That season, the Baggies were managed by Roberto Di Matteo, and then Roy Hodgson, but seem to have found an identity under Pulis with a cluster of more exciting attacking players to pick from – though they certainly need more options going forward.

Vela meanwhile, has been exceptional in Spain since joining La Liga side Real Sociedad in 2012. The 28-year-old has scored 51 goals in 166 top flight games, which is an incredibly impressive return given that he has often been deployed on the wing or in a slightly deeper striker role.

With Sociedad doing well this season, it may be extremely difficult to lure him away, but the chance to really prove himself in the Premier League, and to West Brom fans also, could perhaps tempt him into a move.

And if they could bring him in, he would undoubtedly be the kind of addition that would give the Baggies an excellent chance on building upon what they have shown this term.
