Should West Brom target Tony Pulis’ countryman amid reports he’s two games from sack?

West Bromwich Albion are reportedly considering parting company with Tony Pulis, so perhaps his countryman should be on their radar.

According to a surprise report from the Daily Star, Tony Pulis could have just two games to save his job at West Brom with the Baggies board seemingly running out of patience with the Welshman.

It is little surprise that West Brom are unhappy with the job that Pulis has done recently. The club have not won since August and are falling towards the relegation zone at a fairly alarming rate.

What makes the report something of a shock is the fact that Pulis may be being given two more games when those two fixtures come at home to Chelsea and away at Tottenham – and it will arguably be difficult to find a significantly more difficult couple of games.

Should Pulis fail to inspire a turnaround and he is let go by West Brom, perhaps the Baggies should consider a manager whose stock has risen considerably in his most recent job and is currently set to be out of contract at the end of the month.

Chris Coleman has worked wonders with Wales, and if he decides to leave the post following their inability to qualify for next summer’s World Cup – BBC Sport reports that his future is up in the air as his contract runs down, though he admitted to wanting to stay – West Brom should consider making a bid for him.

What Coleman achieved with Wales – taking them to the Euro 2016 semi-finals and making Hal Robson-Kanu look like Lionel Messi along the way – suggests that he would be an excellent candidate to consider as he would be able to turn the mood around at The Hawthorns and get the very best out of the players available to him.

It may be a gamble to get rid of Pulis. However, the former Stoke boss’ speciality has been keeping teams up, even if style is sacrificed to do it, and right now, it looks as if he may not be able to keep them in the division if their current form continues.

Appointing Coleman as his replacement may be a gamble also, but given how he has helped transform the country’s fortunes since taking over in the wake of Gary Speed’s death, it may actually be a smaller risk than keeping Pulis in charge right now.
