Middlesbrough have reportedly bid for Paddy McNair but should West Brom challenge for the Sunderland midfielder’s signature?

Paddy McNair of Sunderland reacts during the Sky Bet Championship match between Sunderland and Burton Albion at Stadium of Light on April 21, 2018 in Sunderland, England.

Sunderland have rejected a bid of just over £5m from Middlesbrough for Paddy McNair, reports Sky Sports.

This comes after two offers from Brighton and Hove Albion, the second being around £3.5m, were also turned down and an unnamed London club also had a £3.75m bid knocked back.

Eastleigh chairman Stewart Donald looks on prior to the Pre-Season Friendly match between Eastleigh and Northampton Town at Silverlake Stadium on August 1, 2014 in Eastleigh, Hampshire.

New Black Cats owner, Stewart Donald, says the club will only sell McNair if the midfielder makes it clear he wants to leave and if that comes about they are seeking nearer to £7m.

Who else should be interested?

Many would agree that the Northern Ireland international is far too good to be playing in League One and clearly Brighton feel McNair should be back in the Premier League.

However, with a Championship club showing the most interest at the moment in the 23-year-old then that could well be his next destination and in that case, perhaps West Bromwich Albion should consider the Manchester United academy graduate?

After all, McNair’s position of central midfield is somewhere manager Darren Moore needs to recruit for the Baggies with James Morrison and Claudio Yacob both leaving the Hawthorns and Jake Livermore also strongly linked with an exit by the Sun following their relegation.
