West Bromwich Albion reportedly wanted to sign Troy Deeney in January, so perhaps they should look again this summer.

Despite being relegated last season, there is a lot of optimism surrounding West Brom right now with Darren Moore restoring a lot of pride in the squad by overseeing a fantastic run of results to end last season.

Sometimes, relegation can prove to be a positive as it can allow teams to rebuild rather than spend several years simply treading water proving unable to do anything more than simply stay up each year.

West Brom arguably have the potential to be one of those teams who benefit from their wake-up call, but this summer is a crucial one for the Baggies, and the club perhaps need to show plenty of ambition in the market to not only help potentially secure promotion but perhaps to even starting putting the foundations in place that will allow them to quickly re-establish themselves at the highest level.

And that is why the Daily Star’s report that Troy Deeney could be available this summer should perhaps alert Moore if he is looking to bolster his striker options.

Sky Sports reported in January that West Brom made contact with Watford about a potential £16 million move to The Hawthorns, and the Daily Star is now reporting that he is available for just £10 million.

It remains to be seen if the Baggies have a budget that could make such a deal happen, but they should certainly consider rejoining the race in the hope that they can convince Deeney to spearhead their promotion charge.

The 29-year-old is a leader and last season was the first time since 2010/11 that he failed to reach double figures for league goals, so he is certainly the kind of goalscorer that could make a serious difference to the Baggies.

And if West Brom did decide to re-enter the race and actually won the battle for his signature, it would undoubtedly put the club in a fantastic position to make their stay in the second tier extremely brief.
