West Bromwich Albion could arguably do with strengthening their striker options this summer.
Sunderland’s Jermain Defoe
With the Daily Mail confirming that Jermain Defoe will be able to leave Sunderland for free this summer if they are relegated from the Premier League, it is surely fair to say that he may arguably be the ideal option for Tony Pulis to pursue.
The Telegraph reported earlier in the month that West Brom are looking to sign a new striker at the end of the season, and Defoe arguably ticks several boxes for the Baggies.
Not only will the 34-year-old be able to move on for nothing if the Black Cats go down, but it is also safe to say that Defoe is enjoying such a strong season that few would bet against him enjoying one last run with a top-half team in the Premier League and making a success of it.
Defore has scored 14 times for David Moyes’ men in the league this term, while his teammates have contributed just 10 goals between them for the division’s bottom club.
West Bromwich Albion manager Tony Pulis
If he decided to move to the Hawthorns, he would surely have a considerably greater number of chances set up for him by his teammates and would probably receive the level of first-team football that he may not get at one of the very top clubs.
While some fans may want to see a younger goalscorer come in, the fact that Defoe may be available on a free would make him an absolute bargain signing if he could replicate the form he has shown with Sunderland, and if West Brom were the team to land him, they would surely stand a much greater chance of closing that gap to the top seven.
