West Bromwich Albion could reportedly consider a move for Ipswich Town boss Mick McCarthy if they are relegated from the Premier League.

West Brom fans would have probably been taken by surprise this week when the Daily Mail suggested that Mick McCarthy could come onto their radar if the Baggies are relegated and McCarthy leaves Ipswich when his contract expires at the end of the season.

Unfortunately for Baggies fans, it is looking likely that they will be playing Championship football next term, so perhaps an approach for former Wolves boss McCarthy may not be out of the question.
And should they target McCarthy, perhaps they should consider also going after current Ipswich defender Jonas Knudsen as they will surely need to sign a new left-back.

Convincing Kieran Gibbs to stay at The Hawthorns will be a huge task for whoever is the manager as he is arguably one of the players whose form has not been hugely disappointing this season, and thus, it will be no surprise if Premier League sides come calling should they go down.
Knudsen may be an excellent replacement however. The 25-year-old has contributed seven assists in the Championship this season – only Martyn Waghorn has provided more for Ipswich this season – and he is also capable of moving into the middle and playing at centre-back if required.
Transfermarkt reports that he is out of contract with the club at the end of next season, so he may not command a huge fee if he decided that he wanted to move on this summer.
Appointing McCarthy would surely go down like a lead balloon amongst many of the West Brom fans, but if the club’s hierarchy do pursue the 59-year-old, targeting Knudsen also may not be a bad idea if they not only have to replace a manager, but also a left-back.
