Should West Brom gamble with Leicester prepared to lose money on Kelechi Iheanacho?

West Bromwich Albion need to add to their striker options this month, so perhaps the Leicester City man should come onto their radar.

With only one bottom-half team boasting a better defensive record so far this season, it is not too difficult to work out what second-bottom West Brom’s biggest problem has been this season.

Alan Pardew’s men have scored just 16 goals in 22 Premier League games and have not won a single top flight game since August, so desperately need to use the January transfer window to try and change their momentum heading into the final 16 games of the campaign.

Signing a striker has to be at the top of Pardew’s shopping list – their joint top goalscorers boast just three goals each – and perhaps it would be fair to suggest that an option certainly worth considering has just come onto the market.

The Sun has recently reported that Leicester could be prepared to sell Kelechi Iheanacho and may be willing to make a loss on the £25 million that they spent signing him from Manchester City in the summer.

Given his spell at the King Power Stadium, it may be a gamble to make a move. He is still awaiting his first league goal since joining the Foxes, having started in just two of his nine top flight appearances.

It would certainly be a risk for Pardew to put all of his hopes in Iheanacho, but the 21-year-old demonstrated his potential during his time at the Etihad Stadium, and perhaps a run in the side leading the line may help bring the very best out of him.

At this stage of the season, it will be difficult to sign a striker who is in good form and has a proven track record in the Premier League without breaking the bank. Targeting Iheanacho would be a big risk, but it may potentially prove an inspired decision if Pardew can bring the best out of him.
