West Bromwich Albion are expected to be busy in the transfer market this month.

News broke yesterday that Watford are considering making a £3 million swoop for Fiorentina forward Mauro Zarate, with the Evening Standard reporting that the Italian outfit are ready to listen to offers.

And the Baggies should challenge the Hornets for the Argentine’s signature, as Tony Pulis desperately looks for attacking reinforcements.

The 29-year-old has so much quality, as he showed during his time in England with West Ham, and could prove to be just what West Brom need to help them maintain their position inside the top eight of the Premier League table.

He can play anywhere along the frontline, and possesses a certain level of brilliance from a creative aspect, that would provide the Baggies side with something that they desperately lack at the moment.

Pulis’ men have become too reliant on the goals from Salomon Rondon this season, and they not only need more bodies in forward areas, but they also have to improve on the quality in which they already have.

Zarate has scored seven goals in 26 appearances for Fiorentina since he moved to the club, and although he is not the most prolific, his presence amongst the West Brom side would surely help bring out the best in Rondon.

He is also a set-piece specialist – something that Pulis values highly when signing a player.

Although the Baggies boss surely has plenty of potential options lined up, if he continues to struggle to bring his primary targets to the club, Zarate could be a very smart back-up option.
