West Bromwich Albion arguably need to strengthen their full-back options, so perhaps the Huddersfield Town man would be a good target.
Huddersfield Town’s Tommy Smith is attracting attention from Brighton
A recent report from The Sun suggested that newly-promoted Brighton and Hove Albion were planning a move for Huddersfield Town right-back Tommy Smith. But perhaps it should be West Brom that should be looking at the 25-year-old very closely.
Tony Pulis will have bigger priorities than signing a new right-back this summer with Craig Dawson impressing in the role for much of this term. However, with Dawson’s favoured position being in the middle, and with Jonas Olsson’s departure leaving a void at centre-back, it may be wise for the Baggies to consider targeting a new full-back.
And there are surely few that have been as impressive as Smith this year. The former Manchester City trainee has been a key player for a Terriers side that still stands a great chance of securing promotion to the Premier League through the play-offs.
Smith has contributed a staggering 10 assists in the second tier – only one player provided more – while only a handful of defenders have scored more times than the four that the Englishman has scored this term, so he could provide the kind of creativity that would boost the amount of chances Salomon Rondon and Hal Robson-Kanu have to work with.

At £2.5 million – The Sun suggests that that is how much Smith may cost – the Baggies would be securing a bargain if he arrived at the Hawthorns and produced anything like the form he has shown at the John Smith’s Stadium this year – though it would surely not be out of the question to suggest that that price would increase if David Wagner’s men go up.
Matt Phillips’ form since he arrived has proved exactly why signing players from the Championship can be an extremely good way to get the most out of a transfer budget, and while signing Smith may not capture the imagination amongst supporters, it could prove to be a brilliant piece of business.
