West Bromwich Albion and Aston Villa have been linked recently with moves for Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick.
According to a recent report from ESPN, both West Brom and Aston Villa were keen on Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick last month – but saw their enquiries come to nothing with the veteran keen to stay at Old Trafford.
Carrick has been a peripheral figure for United this term, and has recently been sidelined with injury. Nevertheless, ESPN reported that Jose Mourinho was ‘happy for him to stay’.
But while the Baggies and Villans may have thought that their hopes of landing the five-time Premier League winner may be over, perhaps a recent report coming from BBC Sport should just tempt them to consider making fresh moves during the January transfer window.
BBC Sport reported that the United hierarchy have informed Mourinho that he will need to sell players on during the winter window before he can bring new faces in.
Though the 36-year-old may not command the largest transfer fee, perhaps Mourinho would be open to shifting him off the wage bill given how little he has played this season if a suitable bid comes in.
It does seem unlikely still, but that should not stop West Brom and Aston Villa returning with a bid in January as he would improve both of their squads, especially the latter, with his experience and winning mentality.
