Should Mark Warburton correct his Rangers mistake and sign James Vaughan for Nottingham Forest?

Mark Warburton was appointed as Nottingham Forest boss earlier this month, just weeks after leaving his post at Rangers.

Among his problems at Ibrox this season was his inability to find a regular goalscorer, with no player yet reaching double figures in the league this season, a contrast to Celtic’s prolific Mousa Dembele.

One of his most glaring missed opportunities was a missed deal for James Vaughan, who his assistant David Weir reportedly recommended.

The Scottish Sun reported that Vaughan was highlighted to Warburton by Weir, who knew the striker well from their time at Everton together.

Birmingham City let him leave in the summer, where he joined League One side Bury, and has been in prolific form.

Vaughan has netted 21 goals in 30 games this season, including three in his last five matches.

He would make a smart signing for Nottingham Forest in the summer, who need a replacement for loanee Ross McCormack who is unlikely to be kept on based on current form and the cost of a potential deal.

Burty are 17th in League One and would be unlikely to be able to resist a good offer for Vaughan. If Nottingham Forest are relegated from the Championship, a deal for Vaughan will make even more sense.

At Championship level though the former Everton wonderkid has experience, playing with Huddersfield and Birmingham, and at 28 is in the form of his life.
