The Leeds United right-back has been out of sorts for weeks.

Luke Ayling of Leeds United prepares to take a throw in during the Sky Bet Championship match between Leeds United and Derby County at Elland Road on October 31, 2017 in Leeds, England.

Leeds United right-back Luke Ayling quickly became a fan favourite at Elland Road, but this season his form has dipped to such an extent that many supporters are calling for him to be given some time out of the spotlight.

The problem for Leeds is a lack of cover, with Lewie Coyle currently on loan at Fleetwood Town and Gaetano Berardi taking his place on the opposite flank, but could the man he replaced on the left get another chance to impress after the international break?

After all, Vurnon Anita played regularly at right-back for Newcastle United last season, prior to his summer switch to Leeds, and the Dutchman could do a job for the Whites while also allowing Ayling to refocus ahead of a vital few months.

It is clear that, for whatever reason, Ayling is not the player he was last time out. But form is temporary and the 26-year-old simply needs to get his head back in the game and prove he can be an integral player for Thomas Christiansen’s side.

Anita is a jack of all trades and his versatility can again come in handy as Leeds try to solve the conundrum of Ayling’s faltering form.

While the international break could help the latter get some much needed rest, a change of personnel when Leeds return to domestic action may not be the worst thing, especially when you consider their terrible run of form.
