An injury to Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane might have given Vincent Janssen a small ray of hope.
The Dutchman’s career at Spurs has been a total write off and if a decent offer close to the £17 million they paid for him had come in, they would have sold him already.
He was welcomed back into the Tottenham first team fold in late January but has not yet made an appearance.
Now an injury suffered which could end Harry Kane’s season [BBC] throws Janssen a lifeline.
It still remains a long shot.
Heung-Min Son is capable of leading the line, while Fernando Llorente proved himself in early 2019.
There are even calls from fans to get 17-year-old prodigy Troy Parrott involved.
So if Janssen still cannot even make the bench against Huddersfield Town this weekend, he will know it’s never going to happen for him at Tottenham.
Janssen is not eligible for the Champions League as he wasn’t registered in the squad. In the Premier League he could still be of assistance.
What should be tempting for Spurs is the upside to giving Janssen a shot.
The Dutchman will be hungry to seize his chance, and would give Spurs a fresh option. Strong performances could even help their chances of selling him this summer.
