Aston Villa are in desperate need of goals this season and reported interest in Sheffield Wednesday’s Jordan Rhodes would suggest Scott Hogan could be about to lose his place.
Scott Hogan’s career appeared to be on an upwards trajectory when, after successful spells in non-league and then with Rochdale and Brentford, he arrived at Aston Villa in January.
However, the poor luck with injuries that had threatened to hamper Hogan’s time at Brentford has continued at Villa Park, with just one Championship goal in 14 appearances so far.

Steve Bruce’s side are determined to kick on this season and return to the Premier League, but, with Hogan often injured, Villa struggled for goals last term.
Jonathan Kodjia was the club’s star performer, but few were helping the Ivory Coast international and, in his absence, Hogan again failed to score on the opening day of the new season against Hull City.
And so, with Hogan’s Villa career still yet to really get going, he might have reason to be concerned by reports in the Daily Mail that Bruce is considering a move for Sheffield Wednesday’s Jordan Rhodes.
Rhodes’ own goalscoring exploits have slowed in recent years – netting just three times last season – but he knows the league well and has steered relatively clear of injury.
With Rhodes previously moving for big money, too, another substantial fee would be required to bring him to Villa Park, surely securing a place high up the pecking order, and so Hogan must quickly find his feet or risk being left behind.
