Tottenham defender Kieran Trippier has reached a new level in the past year.

There are set to be a number of eye-catching individual battles when Tottenham host Liverpool at the weekend, with Kieran Trippier against Sadio Mane arguably the pick of the bunch.

Spurs host the Merseyside club at Wembley on Saturday afternoon in the Premier League, as domestic football resumes after the internationals.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side have won three of their opening four league fixtures, but slipped up away to Watford in their last game.

Meanwhile, Liverpool have a 100 per cent record to boast and are the early pace setters in the division.

Liverpool attacker Mane has been one of the outstanding players in the opening month of the season, scoring four goals in as many games.

The 26-year-old flyer has incredible speed that petrifies defences and the left-winger is proving to be a serious goal threat.

Spurs’ right-back Trippier is set to be in direct competition against him and he will need to be defensively switched on to cope with the in-form Liverpool ace.

Trippier, 27, has proven he is a real threat in offensive positions and his performances with England at the World Cup saw his reputation rise.

But the 5ft 7in ace may be best served altering his game a little bit to ensure he is a little bit more reserved and doesn’t allow Mane too much space to hit Spurs on the counter attack.
