Tottenham Hotspur face a lot of competition for the signature of Norwich City playmaker James Maddison during the summer.

According to a report from the Daily Mirror, Tottenham will have to pay £30 million if they hope to sign Norwich City star James Maddison during the summer as the Canaries brace themselves to cash in on their talisman.

Maddison has enjoyed a stunning season in the Championship, with 14 goals and eight assists coming in 40 appearances for Norwich – and Spurs are amongst the sides keen on offering him a shortcut to the Premier League.

The Mirror reports that Mauricio Pochettino will have to see off competition from Liverpool and several of their top flight rivals if they hope to land his signature – which will cost any interested side £30 million.

There is no question that Maddison has been superb this season, but Spurs would certainly be forgiven for being hesitant about paying his asking price given his lack of experience at the highest level and the fact that he would not be the focal point with Tottenham that he is at Carrow Road.

So perhaps Spurs should consider using Josh Onomah to try and sweeten the deal and get the overall fee brought down as there can surely be no doubt that if Maddison arrives, Onomah’s Tottenham career must be in serious doubt.

He has only shown flashes of brilliance on loan at Aston Villa this season, and probably returns to Spurs no higher up the pecking order than when he left the club in the summer. Nevertheless, Norwich may appreciate the opportunity to immediately sign someone who can play in the role that Maddison would leave behind.

Unfortunately for Onomah, his year with Villa appears to have done his Spurs prospects little good, so Pochettino using him to boost Tottenham’s chances of landing one of the most highly-rated prospects in the Football League may be a very smart move if Spurs do consider offering Norwich such a deal.
