Tottenham Hotspur’s Moussa Sissoko is wanted by Marseille, while Spurs like one of their key men, so perhaps some kind of swap could be agreed.
Tottenham’s Moussa Sissoko is attracting attention from Marseille
A recent report from French publication Le Journal Du Dimanche has suggested that Tottenham midfielder Moussa Sissoko may be about to attract a £21.6 million bid from Marseille following his extremely difficult year at White Hart Lane.
Given Sissoko’s disappointing spell with Spurs, it would hardly be a surprise if the Premier League high-flyers were more than willing to listen to offers for the former Newcastle man – especially offers that enabled them to recoup much of the £30 million they spent on him last summer (via BBC Sport).
However, perhaps rather than look at securing a significant fee for the France international, Tottenham should consider using Marseille’s interest in Sissoko to help them land one of their surprise targets.
RMC Sport reported last month that Mauricio Pochettino was a big fan of Florian Thauvin, who is set to join the Ligue 1 side on a permanent deal following his season-long loan from Newcastle (via Chronicle).
Florian Thauvin has enjoyed a wonderful year in France and is reportedly on Tottenham’s radar
Thauvin has been sensational in France this term, so it would perhaps hardly be a surprise if Marseille were having to field offers for the 24-year-old as soon as his deal becomes permanent.
The Magpies flop has scored 15 times and contributed eight assists in the French top flight, so perhaps Pochettino may feel that that return is good enough for Tottenham to try and take a gamble on him in the hope that he proves that he was written off much too early at St James’ Park.
Marseille would understandably be hesitant about letting Thauvin leave, but perhaps Spurs suggesting some kind of swap deal with Sissoko – who played alongside Thauvin for the Magpies – heading the other way may help make a transfer seem a little more appealing.
