The young German has long been linked with Tottenham Hotspur but he could be on the move to Liverpool this summer.

SC Freiburg v RB Leipzig - German Bundesliga

According to a report from the Independent, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has put Timo Werner on a five-man wish list ahead of this summer’s transfer window, but Tottenham Hotspur would be wise to steal a march on their rivals and attempt to bring the German to North London.

After all, as reported by the Telegraph back in the summer of 2015, Tottenham opened talks to sign Werner when he was just 19 and on the books at Stuttgart.

At the time he was allegedly seen as part of a new-look strike force with Emmanuel Adebayor and Roberto Soldado both set for the White Hart Lane exit.

While the duo did leave, Werner failed to arrive, remaining with Stuttgart until the following summer when he made the switch to RB Leipzig.

With 21 goals and seven assists in 37 appearances for the Bundesliga side this season he has quickly proved his worth, and while Liverpool may want to bring him to Anfield, he is exactly the kind of player Tottenham need to add quality to their forward line, easing the pressure on Harry Kane in the process.

Klopp will know the 21-year-old well from his time managing in Germany. However Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino would be wise to finally get a deal over the line, two years after he was first linked with a swoop for the goal-scorer.

The Independent claims Liverpool have already given up on Fulham’s brilliant teenage full-back Ryan Sessegnon, with Tottenham potentially nabbing a bargain this summer, so what chance Spurs beating Liverpool to not one but two exciting young prospects?
