Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly set to face competition from Bayern Munich and Atletico Madrid this summer in their pursuit for Marseille wizard Florian Thauvin, but they boast a trump card that can win them the Frenchman’s signature.

French outlet RMC Sport claim Spurs are interested in signing the 25-year-old ace, who has vastly improved since his flop spell with Newcastle United three years ago.

This season, the France international has scored 26 goals and laid on 18 assists in all competitions, helping Marseille reach the Europa League final as well as booking a place in France’s World Cup squad.

The winger is now hot property and Mauricio Pochettino, who reportedly wanted to sign Thauvin before Newcastle landed him in 2015 and then again last summer, is said to be keen once again.

Though Spurs may not have the spending power of their German and Spanish rivals, they may tempt Marseille into solely accepting their offer by including former Marseille speed machine Georges N’Koudou in a deal.

Spurs signed N’Koudou from the French side at the start of the 2016-17 campaign, but the 23-year-old has failed to show the kind of form that saw Spurs opt to land the France Under-21 international in the first place.

N’Koudou impressed at Marseille, scoring 10 goals in 43 games as well as adding five assists and is likely to be thought of highly among the French side’s fans.

With N’Koudou surplus to requirements at Spurs after a disappointing loan spell with Burnley in which he played just eight times, Spurs will be more than willing to axe N’Koudou in a move that would prove to kill two birds with one stone.

Including N’Koudou in a player-plus-cash deal for Thauvin could see Spurs move into pole position over both Bayern and Atletico this summer, if they do indeed look to land the fleet-footed winger.
