Tottenham Hotspur should move for the relegated Sunderland defender.
The Mirror reported on Friday that Sunderland centre-back Lamine Kone could be available for £10 million following the Black Cats’ Premier League relegation.
And Tottenham Hotspur should be all over that if the figures are accurate.
It was reported today (The Sun) that Tottenham are willing to sell Kevin Wimmer in a sale which would leave Spurs a little light on centre-back options.
Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld are brilliant and Spurs fans will be hoping for another ever-present season from both next term.
But they will need an excellent back-up as the Lilywhites – elminated in the group stages of the Champions League last season – look to juggle European and domestic commitments a little better than they managed last time around.
And Kone might be the perfect man to provide cover.
Of course, he was relegated with Sunderland last season but such failures cannot be put on him. He remains a very decent centre-back who would look a lot better surrounded by a higher calibre of player.
Plus, he has had 18 months of regular Premier League football which might make him a better third-choice option than, say, a foreign import for money who does not know what the division is about.
Ten million pounds is not a lot of money for Kone – who, according to The Mirror, was valued at £20 million last summer – and Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino should certainly explore the possibility of bringing him to North London.
