The Everton midfielder is keen on a Goodison Park exit.

Last summer saw Tottenham Hotspur heavily linked with a move for Everton midfielder James McCarthy.

The Mirror reported that Spurs were readying a £20 million bid for the player in the summer before the Daily Mail suggested they would offer cash plus Aaron Lennon for his services. The reports went on to suggest McCarthy wanted the move, as he was not being offered a new and improved deal at Goodison Park.

Despite the heavy links from the media in August he put the rumours to bed, signing a new five-year deal on Merseyside.

But now he is being linked with an exit from Everton again. According to the Daily Mail the Irish midfielder has told Everton he wants to leave – with Sunderland, Celtic and Newcastle United all said to be keen.

So should Spurs move again?

Of course, they have already signed a similar player in the shape of Victor Wanyama. But Ryan Mason is in talks to leave and Nabil Bentaleb has already joined Schalke.

That leaves them short in midfield considering they are also embarking on a Champions League campaign.

However, the form of the Everton player dipped last term and perhaps Tottenham will not be as inclined to make a move for the player 12 months down the line.
