Paris Saint-Germain winger Lucas Moura is reportedly available this January, with a £40m catch.
Tottenham Hotspur missed out signing the pacey goalscoring winger they so badly need when they passed up on Paris Saint-Germain star Lucas Moura in the summer, according to reports in France.
The Independent cites France Football as claiming that Mauricio Pochettino turned down the chance to sign Moura late in the transfer window, as Spurs added only striker Fernando Llorente to their attacking arsenal.
Moura has since only made six substitute appearances for the Ligue 1 heavyweights.
The Sun adds that Manchester United are desperate to sign the 25-year-old, but they already have a plethora of speed merchants in their ranks, and Moura would have a greater impact over in North London.
The one attribute missing from Tottenham’s attack is genuine pace and it is surprising that Pochettino refused the opportunity to address this with a player who usually has the quality to match his quickness.
Pochettino has dipped into the French market previously but only to sign unproven players such as Clinton N’Jie and Georges-Kevin N’Koudou, who had the speed Spurs needed but were missing much of the rest.
Moura has proven European and international pedigree, with 44 goals in 212 games for PSG and four Ligue 1 titles, and Pochettino should change his stance on him this January to get him for market value in the summer.
