Should Tottenham Hotspur look at Edin Dzeko, amid rumours about Fernando Llorente’s future?
By virtue of the fact that he has only scored five goals in 28 games across all competitions for Tottenham Hotspur, it was only a matter of time before Fernando Llorente was linked with a summer exit.
And that day has come as The Evening Standard claimed on Tuesday that Tottenham were willing to offload the £14 million dud in the coming months.
If true, Mauricio Pochettino will set off on the unenviable task of finding the ideal cover for Harry Kane and hope it’s third-time lucky, after already failing with Vincent Janssen.
And one man who is simply perfect is Roma hitman Edin Dzeko.
The 31-year-old, who won two Premier League titles at Manchester City, came close to joining Chelsea in January, but the Blues’ acquisition of Olivier Giroud likely means that Dzeko won’t be re-explored.
If the Bosnia & Herzegovina international was willing to return to England in January then it might still be the case this summer and, although he may cost around £19.5 million according to Transfermarkt, he is worth every penny.
The former City marksman hit 50 Premier League goals in 130 games. Having played second fiddle to Sergio Aguero for so long, a lot of his goals would have come off the bench and consequently he would represent an ideal plan-b option for Spurs and Kane.
He turns 32 on Saturday, but his goal in the Champions League against Shakhtar on Tuesday proves that he can still be a huge asset and signing him – or at least enquiring about him – this summer is a no-brainer.
