Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino may have made a rare error by sending out Josh Onomah on loan, and starting Moussa Sissoko over him.

There is no doubt that Sissoko has been much improved this season, but he still does not seem up to the standard required to play regularly for Spurs.

Sissoko was handed a chance to start for Tottenham against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium, but his performance in the contest was poor, as Pochettino’s side slipped to a 2-0 defeat.

Onomah, meanwhile, continues to earn plaudits galore during his time at Aston Villa.

Steve Bruce has already stated that he wants to sign Onomah permanently, and Villa fans have taken the youngster to their hearts.

Whether Spurs would be open to offloading Onomah remains to be seen, but there is an argument to suggest he would have been a better option than Sissoko currently.

Pochettino has always been eager to give Spurs’ youngsters first-team chances, and they have generally flourished when selected.

Harry Winks is the latest Tottenham academy graduate to rise rapidly to become an England international, and Onomah’s pathway to success could have been similar – if he was just given an opportunity to impress at Tottenham this season.
