Tottenham Hotspur should consider trying to land Manchester United’s Victor Lindelof.
Spurs chairman Daniel Levy may have better luck targeting Victor Lindelof, and landing a straight replacement for Alderweireld.
Lindelof struggled at United early on, but began to impress as the season went on.
He starred for Sweden in their international play-off against Italy to clinch their World Cup place last November, showing the form which helped him win league titles for Benfica.
Lindelof made 16 starts for United and his improved form at the end of last season was highlighted by the fact the Red Devils kept clean sheets in four of the last eight, being defeated only once in that span.
He was though overlooked for the FA Cup Final, perhaps wrongly, not even making the bench as Phil Jones put in a calamitous performance.
Jones’ errors highlighted United’s need to sign Tottenham’s Toby Alderweireld, and Spurs should look at acquiring Lindelof in part exchange.
Signed for £30 million from Benfica last summer, Lindelof could compete for a position at Tottenham straight away, and would surpass Juan Foyth in the pecking order.
Alderweireld’s potential arrival at United would leave Lindelof fighting for his future at Old Trafford.
At 23, he is the right profile of player Spurs should be targeting, six years younger than Alderweireld, and Tottenham should attempt to resolve the Belgian’s situation and sign a replacement in one swoop.
