Should Tottenham Hotspur consider joining the race for Edin Dzeko?
According to The Telegraph, Chelsea are interested in signing Roma hitman Edin Dzeko.
But the report claims that their interest is “less advanced” in comparison to the Blues’ pursuit of Emerson Palmieri and Tottenham Hotspur should consider joining the race for him.
Tottenham still need a plan-b option for Harry Kane and, simply put, Dzeko is a much better option than Fernando Llorente.
The Spaniard has only managed two goals in 21 games for Spurs following a £12 million switch from Swansea City last summer. As good as he was for the Swans, there are questions over his capacity to be the viable alternative to Kane that Tottenham badly need.
Dzeko, on the other hand, managed 72 goals during a four-year spell at Manchester City and history has proven that he is an excellent goalscorer in the Premier League.
And, unlike Llorente, the 31-year-old can be effective coming off the bench, having had to play a super sub role for much of his time at Eastlands due to Sergio Aguero’s presence.
According to TSM Sportz, Dzeko, whom Transfermarkt claim is valued at around £20 million, earns around £70,000 per week in the Italian capital and would therefore be within Tottenham’s wage structure.
He would be ineligible for their Champions League campaign, but few would deny that he wouldn’t be a huge help in helping Spurs finish in the top four again.
