Spurs have excellent defenders in Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen already in their ranks.

There is no doubt that Tottenham Hotspur would consider themselves to have a fairly impressive array of defensive options.

Two of those star players are Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld. The Belgian pair have proven themselves more than capable of thriving at the very top end of the Premier League.

The pair were both tutored at the Ajax academy in the Netherlands and it shows in their brilliant style of playing the game – that suits Tottenham so well.

So should the Spurs powers-at-be make a move to bring in perhaps the best potential long-term replacement or team-mate for the pair.

Matthijs de Ligt is a 17-year-old defender who has already found his way into the Ajax first-team and is a future star of the Ajax first-team.

Tottenham know how impressive the two former Ajax players they currently have can be, another one seemingly just as talented would surely be a good recruit from the club.

Of course, Spurs already have talented teenager Cameron Carter-Vickers to bring through the ranks but a player of De Ligt’s talent should not be overlooked.

Undoubtedly, he is a player that Spurs should keep their eyes on.
