The striker is currently in good form for Sunderland and it would be his fourth spell at White Hart Lane.

Tottenham Hotspur have been struggling to find consistency this season. One of the main reasons for their troubles has been a lack of striking prowess.

Vincent Janssen has struggled to find his best form since his move to White Hart Lane from AZ Alkmaar this season and when Harry Kane, the club’s main goal-scorer, suffered a serious ankle injury, Spurs could not buy a goal.

They will need to address the striking issues in January of they are to have a chance at silverware.

So should Tottenham Hotspur look to reunite with Jermain Defoe yet again?

Defoe has spent three separate spells at Spurs. He was at the club from 2004-2008 before leaving for Portsmouth. He quickly returned, spending 2009-2014 back at White Hart Lane.

He then headed to the club on loan from Toronto in 2014 as it seemed his powers were dwindling.

The 34-year-old is however in some of his best form, despite playing for struggling Sunderland. He has scored 29 times in 65 games for Sunderland – including seven in 14 this term.

Defoe is proving himself still worthy of his fearsome Premier League goalscoring reputation.

Sunderland would be remiss to letting him go. But, considering his age and his affinity for Spurs, a good offer could be difficult to reject.

It would be something of an against-type signing from Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino, who tends to put faith in younger players.

But Defoe would add experience in an area they desperately need improvement. He would undoubtedly add to his 143 goals at the club if they made a move for the Sunderland striker.
