Everton are reportedly tracking the Bayern Munich star, but Tottenham Hotspur should surely challenge them for his signature.

Mauricio Pochettino manager

Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino will surely be looking to bolster his ranks this month, with qualification for the Champions League places far from a foregone conclusion.

One particular area where the Argentine will want to address is his left-back department, with Danny Rose’s future at the club far from certiain, and question marks hanging over Ben Davies’ head as to whether he is actually good enough.

With this in mind, Tottenham should consider a move for Bayern Munich full-back Juan Bernat, who is attracting interest from Everton, according to the Liverpool Echo.

The 24-year-old joined the Bavarian giants from Valencia in the summer of 2014, for a fee believed to be worth in the region of £8 million, but has predominantly played second fiddle to David Alaba, making just 56 Bundesliga starts during his three-and-a-half year spell with the club.

Bernat has so much to offer at the very highest level, however, and his playing style would fit perfectly into Pochettino’s philosophy, what with the Argentine’s insistence on his full-backs being just as good going forward as they are defensively.

The Spaniard is incredibly quick, and possesses a wonderfully cultured left-foot. His final delivery is up there with the very best attacking full-backs in Europe, and he would undoubtedly be an upgrade on Ben Davies.

A lot will hinge on whether Spurs sell Danny Rose, however. If Tottenham decide to sanction the sale of the England international, there would definitely be a place for Bernat in the Spurs squad, and if Pochettino manages to bring him to the club, it could turn out to be a signing of real significance for the Lilywhites.
