Tottenham Hotspur are expected to be busy during this summer’s transfer window.
Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino
Spurs enjoyed a successful Premier League campaign on the whole, despite the fact that their push for the title fell just short, and Mauricio Pochettino will be looking to strengthen his squad even further still in the summer, if his side are to go one step further next term.
One particular area of Pochettino’s squad that needs attention is the central defensive position, especially if the Argentine plans to play with three centre-backs on a regular basis next season.
Toby Alderweireld missed eight Premier League games this term, and his persistent injury problems will be a concern for Tottenham. Eric Dier’s future is also far from certain, and with Kevin Wimmer failing to impress on a consistent enough basis, the addition of another top class centre-back will surely feature highly on the Spurs manager’s wish-list.
Benfica’s Victor Lindelof in action
With this is mind, Spurs should consider challenging Manchester United and Roma for the signature of highly-rated Swedish youngster Victor Lindelof.
The Mirror claim that the European giants are slugging it out for the £35 million-rated Benfica man, who has enjoyed a fine spell with the Portuguese club, winning the league title in every season he has spent at the Stadium of Light.
Standing at 6ft 2in, Lindelof is physically imposing, and is extremely strong in the air. He is not afraid to engage in individual battles with opposing strikers, and has a reputation for his tough-natured playing style.

He is also extremely quick along the ground, and although he is an orthodox centre-back, he can also play in the right back slot, something that could appeal to Pochettino.
At 22, Lindelof fits the profile of an archetypal Tottenham signing, and with plenty of years ahead of him in which he can improve further still, the Spurs boss could mould him into one of the world’s best centre-backs.
He is seemingly ideally suited to the Premier League’s robust style, and would be a great addition to the Tottenham back-line. It is signings like this that the Lilywhites need to make, if they are to make real progress as a club, and at £35 million, Lindelof would be worth every penny.
