This player swap could be ideal for both Tottenham Hotspur and Southampton.
Jose Fonte’s future at Southampton remains unclear, after he was left out of the starting line-up for his side’s 3-1 win at Bournemouth yesterday.
And with the Saints’ reported interest in Spurs centre-back Kevin Wimmer (the Sun), there seems to be an ideal opportunity for a swap deal between the two clubs.
The 32-year-old Portugal international is listed at 8/1 to move to Tottenham in the Jnaury transfer window with popular bookmakers BETVICTOR, and he would seem to be the ideal back-up for Toby Alderweireld, whose continual injury problems must be a concern for Mauricio Pochettino.
Tottenham’s Kevin Wimmer
Wimmer, at the age of 24, will surely not be happy if he continues to be purely an understudy for Jan Vertonghen, and a move to St Mary’s could be just what he needs to help reignite his career.
The Austrian is eight years younger than Fonte, so Tottenham would surely value him higher than the Southampton man.
Wimmer has only managed two Premier League starts for the Lilywhites this season, however, and could possibly be viewed as dispensable by Mauricio Pochettino.
Southampton’s Jose Fonte
Both players are accustomed to being part of a very organised, disciplined backline, which would make the transition for the pair easily adaptable, should any kind of deal come to fruition.
And with the January transfer window just around the corner, this will certainly be one to keep an eye on.
