Spurs still need to sign a back-up striker to Harry Kane.

Tottenham Hotspur’s new stadium has prevented Mauricio Pochettino from going all out in the transfer market of late, but with a number of players set to leave in the summer, January could be utilised to bring in early replacements.
Fernando Llorente is one of those players with his future at Spurs in doubt. Now 33 years of age, the Spaniard’s contract expires at the end of the season and the north Londoners will be without an adequate back-up to Harry Kane.
With Pochettino renowned for his faith in younger players, it looks increasingly unlikely that Llorente is going to be offered an extension on his current deal at Spurs. Indeed, a new player is likely to be brought in.
January could be used to bring in a replacement early – like Spurs did with Lucas Moura last season. One name should be high on Pochettino’s shortlist, in the form of Hertha Berlin striker Davie Selke.
That is because the Daily Mirror’s live transfer blog (Tuesday, 03:46) claim Southampton are interested in signing 23-year-old Selke, after Ralph Hasenhuttl joined the Saints. Selke played under the German manager at RB Leipzig.
Selke scored 14 goals and created four more in 31 games last season, but this time around he has been used as a substitute instead. 10 of his 12 Bundesliga appearances have come from the bench.

The report claims Southampton want to sign the Germany Under-21 international, and are confident they can strike a deal to land the talismanic forward for a bargain figure of just £14million.
With Spurs looking to save the odd penny here and there, landing a player of Selke’s quality, age and certainly potential for just £14million would be an excellent buy – and one that will surely be happy to act as Kane’s back-up.
