Everton should show more faith in the exciting youngster.

After his first league start of the season in the 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace last weekend, Everton midfielder Tom Cleverley came in for plenty of criticism from the Toffees faithful.

The 27-year-old has failed to win over the doubters so far and one wonders if he ever will, but an interesting comment on social media raises the question as to whether another Everton player deserves the minutes that Cleverley is currently enjoying.

Tom Davies may only be 18 but he is highly regarded at Goodison Park and seen by many as a future first-team star.

After impressing against Norwich City last season in what was a wonderfully composed display for such a young player, Davies has made two substitute appearances under new Everton boss Ronald Koeman and more should follow.

But that performance against the Canaries suggests he is more than ready to step into the fold from the outset should Cleverley continue to disappoint.

It is always a bold move playing an unproven teenager yet it worked before and it can work again. After all, Cleverley is seen by the majority of Everton fans as little more than a workhorse; an average player who has failed to live up to his potential.

Davies could be another Everton gem, and perhaps now is the time to see what he can do on a more consistent basis.
