Leeds United’s Jay-Roy Grot deserves a chance up front on Saturday.
Leeds United travel to Bristol City on Saturday hoping to avoid a fourth successive Championship defeat.
They lost 1-0 to Reading at Elland Road on Saturday in a game which saw striker Pierre-Michel Lasogga touch the ball 12 times in 77 minutes.
He was replaced by £1.5 million signing Jay-Roy Grot for the final 13 minutes and you wonder whether Leeds boss Thomas Christiansen should give him a first start in Saturday’s visit to Ashton Gate.
The 19-year-old has had to bide his time since joining the Whites, managing only 111 minutes of league football across six games and averaging 18.5 minutes per match.
It’s not enough for the Dutchman to build up any sense of momentum and Christiansen should try using him from the beginning this weekend.
Grot had to endure a similarly bit-part role for NEC at the beginning of last season but the towering marksman went on to score five goals in seven games after being given a chance and you wonder whether he could repay Leeds’ faith with the same.
He did not set the match alight after replacing Lasogga at the weekend. In fact, he missed a good chance, but that should suggest he was more involved in the game than his German counterpart and he is an intruiging option for United.
At 6’4, he also has the physical attributes to test Bristol centre-halves Nathan Baker and 6’6 Aden Flint in ways which Lasogga cannot.
Lasogga, on loan from Hamburg, is reportedly growing disillusioned with life in West Yorkshire, according to Hamburger Morgenpost, and it’s time that Christiansen rotated him. At the moment, he is looking very stale and Grot is a hungrier, fresher option.
