Swansea City failed in their attempt to sign Ryan Woods but should they look to land Josh Onomah on loan from Tottenham Hotspur instead?

Ryan Woods of Brentford

Swansea City were left frustrated in their pursuit of Ryan Woods, as after failing to meet Brentford’s £6m-£7m asking price – as reported by the BBC – the midfielder then joined Stoke City instead.

It means manager Graham Potter has not added a further play-maker to his squad that he clearly desired when trying to sign Woods.

With the loan window closing on Friday (August 31) the Swans are running out of time if they want to recruit in midfield, but the perfect option could well be available at Tottenham Hotspur.

Having initially been keen to keep Josh Onomah in the first-team this season, as outlined by the Mirror earlier this month, the Telegraph now reports that Spurs could loan the 21-year-old back to the Championship.

Onomah spent the 2017/18 campaign with Aston Villa and the Birmingham side had made an approach to bring the England Under-21 international back, but that failed to materialise.

Yet with Potter liking to play expansive, possession-based football the youngster could fit in perfectly and add that spark of creativity in the middle of the pitch.
