Swansea still keen on Brentford’s Ryan Woods but would Charlie Adam of Stoke be a good short-term alternative?

Swansea City have not given up hope of signing Ryan Woods this month, with BBC Sport Wales reporting they are looking to land the Brentford midfielder on loan.

Woods was keen on the move to the Liberty Stadium, but the Swans were unwilling to meet his valuation of between £6m and £7m.

Now they are looking at bringing in the 24-year-old on a temporary deal but with a view to making that permanent in the future.

However, presumably the Bees will still want the same amount for Woods and if Swansea remain reluctant to pay it, what are the alternatives?

Short-term option

Perhaps Charlie Adam could fit the bill having been told by Stoke City that he is free to leave the club before August 31 because he has no future under manager Gary Rowett, reports the Telegraph.

Adam is not as exciting a prospect as Woods and falls into the bracket of being in the latter stages of his career rather than showing potential of improvement, yet does have vital experience at Championship level.

Bringing in the 32-year-old wouldn’t also mean that a deal for the Brentford ace couldn’t also be struck in the future as well, but would give boss Graham Potter another option in central midfield in the meantime.
