The report claims that Premier League clubs West Ham and Crystal Palace have shown an interest in him, while a return to Bournemouth is a possibility.
However, it is Newcastle who are seeming to lead the race for his signature. Should Swansea City join the race for him as well?
Paul Clement has money burning a hole in his pocket following Gyli Sigurdsson’s big money transfer to Everton last week.
He needs to reinvest the money wisely, and bolster several areas of the pitch. And Wilshere would be a major coup for the Swans.
He is a vastly experienced and top-class midfielder, but recurrent injuries have been his biggest set-back.
When he is fit and firing, there are not many better in the Premier League at carrying the ball from deep and creating opportunities.
The 34-cap international star would give Clement more options for tactical play, as he is versatile enough to play in the deep-lying play-maker role, or in the advanced no. 10 position as well.
His signing would be a gamble, no doubt, but he is a risk worth taking. Clement needs experience and leadership in the middle of the park, and Wilshere could just be the man to do the job.
