Stoke look set to sign Ryan Woods, but should Swansea have stumped up the cash for the Brentford midfielder when they had the chance?

Swansea City may about to be bypassed in the pursuit of Ryan Woods as the Telegraph reports Stoke City are preparing a £6.5m bid for the Brentford midfielder.
With the window for permanent transfers having now closed it would initially be a loan deal with that being made permanent in January.
The Swans had been the favourites to sign Woods themselves, but failed to meet the Bees’ relatively cheap valuation of between £6-7m for the 24-year-old.
Will Swansea regret the decision?
It has been a difficult summer of transfer business for the South Wales side and their new manager, Graham Potter, with them losing the vast majority of their squad following relegation from the Premier League and failing to bring in as many new faces to replace them.

A creative force such as Woods in central midfield would have been a real bonus for Potter and the deal was there to be completed, but clearly the board were unwilling to provide the funds.
Stoke now look ready to swoop in for one of the most highly rated players in the position in the Championship, while Swansea will be left wondering what could have been.
