Sunderland should perhaps have a look at Kasey Palmer as he returns from his loan spell.

Judging by the business that Sunderland did in the summer, it would certainly be no surprise if Chris Coleman felt that he needed to be shrewd in the January transfer window to try and give the Black Cats the best chance of survival.

Sunderland currently find themselves bottom of the Championship two points off safety after Birmingham City put together back to back wins to move above them in the table.

The loan market may be particularly useful for Coleman, and he should perhaps take notice of a player whose loan deal in the Premier League was recently cut short and who was part of a promotion winning side last season.

Kasey Palmer looked set to spend a second season on loan with Huddersfield this term, but it was confirmed earlier this month that he has returned to Chelsea after only a handful of appearances this season for David Wagner’s men.

While the 21-year-old has endured a frustrating time this term, Coleman should perhaps have a look at his record from last season, when he scored four goals and provided three assists in 25 appearances to help the Terriers get themselves promoted, and try and make a loan bid.

Palmer may have doubts about joining Sunderland, but, after a frustrating time this season, the chance to be a first-team regular would surely appeal to him.

Coleman could do with adding more quality to his side going forward, and targeting Palmer and making him his first-choice attacking midfielder could prove an inspired move if he replicates the form that he showed last season.
