Sunderland may have to try and find a replacement for Lewis Grabban during the January transfer window.
Sunderland fans will, no doubt, be alarmed by reports coming from the Daily Mail that suggested that Lewis Grabban could be on his way out of the Stadium of Light during the January transfer window with Bournemouth considering using a recall clause in the loan deal that would allow them to sell him permanently.
Grabban has been sensational for the Black Cats and if it was not for his goals, you would imagine that Chris Coleman’s men would be in an even worse position in the Championship.
Therefore, replacing his goals – he has 10 in the league this term – could be one of the most important pieces of business Sunderland do in January, if the Cherries do sell him, as they try to drag themselves away from danger.
One player who may perhaps be worth considering for Coleman is Manchester United’s James Wilson, who boasts experience in the Championship and may be available on loan during the January transfer window.
The Sun reported last month that Wilson was attracting attention from some of Sunderland’s second tier rivals, but the Black Cats should definitely make a move in the hope that the prospect of getting regular game-time helps tempt him to consider a move to the Stadium of Light.
Wilson has not played a senior game since his loan spell at Derby County was cut short last season, but he has scored five times in his last five games for United’s under-23s so has certainly got some momentum going right now.
And if Sunderland do end up losing Grabban and have only a limited budget to work with as they try and replace him, joining the race for Wilson may be one of the best moves they can make.
