If David Unsworth doesn’t get the Everton job should he drop into the Championship? Maybe Sunderland?
Leighton Baines and David Unsworth celebrate after the Premier League match between Everton and Watford.
David Unsworth is still hoping he will be named the new permanent Everton manager during the international break as the club still seeks a successor to Ronald Koeman.
Unsworth lost the first three games of his caretaker spell in charge following the sacking of Koeman, but will have boosted his chances as the Toffees came from 2-0 down to beat Watford 3-2 in the Premier League in his fourth outing.
Leighton Baines of Everton celebrates scoring his side’s third goal with his teammates during the Premier League match against Watford.
When speaking after the Hornets victory about who will get the job, the 44-year-old told the Liverpool Echo: “If it is me, amazing, if it is not it is not then nobody will take this experience away from me.
“I have stood there for the last two weeks a proud man.
“What will be will be and whoever gets the honour will have my backing.”
David Unsworth, caretaker manager of Everton, looks on during the Premier League match against Watford.
The Merseysiders are now preparing for two weeks away from domestic action and are expected to have appointed a new boss before they face Crystal Palace on November 18.
If Unsworth does not get the job then he could return to his role with the Under-23s at Goodison Park, but having been so eager to get into senior management should the former left-back start looking elsewhere?
The current interim could drop into the Championship and although not an easy task, perhaps the vacant position at Sunderland should be considered.
The Black Cats are looking for a replacement for Simon Grayson after he was axed and would maybe consider giving Unsworth his big chance in the dugout.
