After missing out on James Wilson to Aberdeen, should Sunderland turn to one of the Dons’ former targets in Nottingham Forest’s Zach Clough?
Manchester United striker James Wilson has joined Aberdeen on a season long loan despite being linked with Sunderland by the Chronicle, among others.
Black Cats manager Jack Ross did admit that a deal for Wilson wasn’t close, but now definitely needs to find an alternative to the Red Devils forward.
Ross is in the market for a new front-man as with new signing Charlie Wyke still out injured for a few more weeks, the team are relying heavily on Josh Maja for goals – and the teenager has scored two already this season.
Kacper Przybylko is on trial currently, but the Scot is undecided on whether that move will be made permanent, and with the loan market open until the end of the month there is the option to sign someone on a temporary basis.
So who is available?
Before confirming the signing of Wilson, Aberdeen – along with fellow Scottish Premiership side Hibernian – were linked with Nottingham Forest’s Zach Clough by the Sun.
Clough has struggled to assert himself at the City Ground after joining them in January 2017 following a prolific period at Bolton Wanderers and boss Aitor Karanka is prepared to send him out on loan.
With Dons presumably out of the race following their capture of Wilson, maybe Sunderland should use the opportunity to swoop in and try to land the 23-year-old.
